E’ accertato che a scatenare una simile ondata di incendi nel continente australiano siano state le temperature record di questi ultimi mesi, lo scorso 19 dicembre la temperatura nazionale media ha toccato i 42 gradi centigradi, la siccità dura ormai da tre anni, per non parlare del vento che soffia a una velocità superiore di 100 chilometri orari.
Quando Greta Thumberg dice che la nostra casa è in fiamme non sbaglia di una virgola purtroppo e soprattutto nel caso australiano, è proprio così: gli eventi climatici stanno devastando il nostro pianeta. Essere ricchi e civilizzati serve a poco, quando la Terra mostra all’umanità il conto della sua inerzia.
LA MANO DELL’UOMO
Nel frattempo, sono state arrestate 180 persone con l’accusa di aver appiccato deliberatamente degli incendi boschivi, quindi circa il 5% degli incendi che stanno devastando l’Australia. Secondo una ricerca del professor James Ogloff, non esiste un vero e proprio identikit per questi soggetti ma se analizziamo il loro profilo psicologico possiamo trovare un passato difficile e la maggior parte o superano i 60 anni di età o sono giovanissimi tra i 12 e i 25 anni.
Un altro macabro aspetto di questa vicenda è che il Paese è guidato da uno dei governi più attivi alla negazione della responsabilità dell’uomo nel cambiamento climatico. Scott Morrison, ha, tra l’altro, negato ogni sorta di legame tra gli incendi che stanno devastando il suo Paese e le politiche che lui ha promosso. Basti pensare che il CCPI (Climate Change Performance Index) del 2020 ha a loro assegnato il punteggio minimo nella valutazione della politica climatica.
LE CONSEGUENZE NEL BREVE TERMINE
Nella capitale Australiana, Canberra, l’aria è diventata irrespirabile, ha registrato la peggiore qualità dell’aria del mondo. Poco serve il fatto di aver consegnato ai cittadini circa 100.000 maschere con filtri protettivi per la respirazione.
La coltre di fumo tossico ieri ha raggiunto Melbourne, la più grande città del Victoria. La marina australiana è stata dispiegata per salvare centinaia di turisti bloccati da un incendio e costretti a rifugiarsi sulla spiaggia di Mallacoota.
