Centergross is located on international transportation roads. It comprises a one million square meters of office space, showrooms and warehouses. Centergross is one of the most important groups of fashion companies at global level. It is a fashion citadel with stylists, models, buyers and businessmen.
The original project is still highly functional. On the contrary, the importance and centrality as fashion citadel acquired by Centergross are no longer consistent with a facility starting to bear the marks of the ravages of time. For these reasons, 40 years after its Foundation, Centergross decided to let designers redesign its most representative building:the service area. It is a 1 km area with restaurants, wellness centers, offices and hundreds of shops. As if they were a huge lymphatic system, they supply the whole fashion district with services.
Nousfera Lab has presented a project that aims to recall the technique of Moulage or Draping. Fashion draping is the oldest method used since the 18th century. Currently, it is considered to be an important part in fashion designing. Fashion Draping is the process of positioning and pinning fabric on a standard size dress form to develop the structure of a garment design. The model is not designed starting from a two-dimensional figure but with a three-dimensional approach.
According to the concept, the main element of the project is a canopy that, as a drape, falling on the buildings that covers, assumed the shape of the volumes underneath.
Along the existing service area building, the project provides additional glass volumes to host new commercial activities, as request in the competition brief. Also, the entry of the entire complex is composed of a public square, strictly connected to Villa d’Orsi, an historical building right on front of it. Finally, the requested urban greening project is formed by a cycle-pedestrian terrace, in order to unify the total extension of the structure.
