Middle School Alpago
The project area is located nearby the town center and is occupied by a variety of buildings, in terms of technology, function and architecture. This generates a lack of relation with the sorrounding, especially towards the oustanding landscape of the Alps.
The project proposal aims to re-organize the entire area through a scholar campus, unique and recognizable.
The main goal is to entirely transform, re-generate and innovate the area with recreational spaces for the community, respecting the history, the values and the morfolgies of the context.
On this basis, we have conceived a building of sharping shapes, to recall the jagged peaks of the Dolomites, made of typical and familiar local materials, such as wood, stone and glass, finally built through economical and simple building process.
The entire project, according to the Anglo-Saxon-style university campuses, will have an introverse and inclusive setting, generating a variety of spaces for socializing.
The composition of the school is charaterized by two distinguished volumes, fitting together. The linear block, that hosts the clasrooms, administration offices, restrooms and a multifunctional space for socializing and exams, and the the sloped slab, containing a library and rooms for music, art, technology and science classes. This last is intended as public place that features a prodigious public green roof for people to explore, relax and play. Visitors can catch some sun on the inclined lawn during the warmer months, and when it snows the roof makes for a playful sledding.
Esposition, materials and building techniques seek to energy efficiency and sustainability. The facades of the buildings are characterized by a rythm of wooden timber recalling the shapes and the features of the trees. Finally, the interior spaces are developed around buffer spaces that provide natural ventilation and passive cooling/ heating.
